Neutron Scattering: This laboratory course consist of lectures and an experimental section. The lectures will encompass an introduction to neutron sources, into scattering theory and instrumentation. Furthermore, selected topics of condensed matter will be presented. It is the aim of the course to give a realistic insight into the experimental technique neutron scattering and its scientific power.

Soft Condensed Matter: A two-week lecture series covering an introduction to Soft Condensed Matter (first week) and more advanced material on Colloid Science (second week). Intended for Masters students and PhD students.

European School on Rheology: Rheological Measurements is an intensive short course designed to give practicing engineers and chemists an understanding of the fundamentals of rheology, its principles of measurement and its application to problem solving. Hands-on experience with commercial rheometers is provided. The course is an unique combination of the treatment of the theoretical fundamentals of rheology and the practical details of performing measurements. In addition, application of rheology to the characterization of polymer solutions, melts, gels, crosslinking systems, suspensions and processing flows are covered.

AMPERE Nuclear Magnetic Resonance School: (about 80 participants) The School takes place in Zakopane (Tatra Mountains) – about 100 km. south of Krakow and is aimed to make students familiar with the many aspects of NMR, both theoretically and experimentally.

School on Light Scattering: This is a one week course. Both conventional static and dynamic light scattering as well as evanescent wave and heterodyne light scattering will be treated, both theoretically and by means of experiments. This course will be organized for the first time in 2008.

Juelich Spring School: This is a two-week school (with about 200 participants) where soft matter and biophysics topics are thought. The school of this year 2008 will address advanced experimental techniques and applications, and theoretical and computer simulation methods on an undergraduate and graduate student level. Introductory lectures provide the basis of important experimental and theoretical tools. More advanced lectures will explain practical aspects of various methods and will lead the participants from basic methods to the frontiers of current research.

The central scientific conference for SoftComp is the Juelich Soft Matter Days. This meeting is organized once a year. The aim of this conference is to bring together scientist from the different soft matter disciplines (including biophysicists). The conference is attended by more than 200 scientists, also from outside SoftComp. Once in three years, a larger conference, “The International Soft Matter Conference” with a similar scope will be organized. The first larger conference has been organized in 2007 where more than 600 scientists attended (see for more information
http://www.fz-juelich.de/iff/ismc2007
The organizers will be chosen from different countries each three years.
In order to train PhD students in various different types of Soft Matter systems, a Eurothesis programme is established. There is a web-based application system, where PhD students spend at least 1 year in two different SoftComp labs, in order to ensure a long term exposure of PhD students to a foreign research environment and to introduce them to the different areas of expertise necessary in order to successfully conduct research in the multidisciplinary and multi-materials arena of SoftComp.
With the same scope, developed an exchange programme ha been developed that is also admissible for senior scientists. Again, a web-page based application and reporting has been installed on the SoftComp web page.
